Chicken Fritters (Low Carb or Not)

My Chicken Fritters are incredibly easy to make! Chicken breast, Parmesan cheese, and plenty of aromatics come together in patty form and are pan-fried to golden brown perfection. Pair with your favorite dipping sauces, use as a salad topper, or in a sandwich or wrap. Plus, you can make these low carb… or not!

Sometimes you just need an easy recipe that doesn’t take too long to make, works for meal prep, and happens to be totally delicious.
Well, folks, that’s exactly what you’ll get with my chicken fritters recipe!!
These fritters come together with a handful of simple ingredients in under 1 hour and are perfect for making in advance.
Featuring chicken breast, shredded Parmesan cheese, green onion, and garlic, they’re cheesy on the inside and crispy on the outside after being pan-fried.
You can also make them low carb friendly if you need to — I’m sharing my ideas on how to do it down below.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Chicken Breast – I like chicken breast for chicken fritters — I opt for boneless, skinless cuts to make chopping easier.
You could technically use any type of chicken you want and/or have on hand… but if you use bone-in, make sure to ditch those bones! - Almond Flour – Also works as a binder. Opt for finely ground almond flour or pork panko to keep these keto chicken fritters low carb.
Or, if you don’t mind the extra carbs, you can always use breadcrumbs! - Parmesan Cheese – One of my favorite additions to pretty much every savory recipe I make!
Parmesan has a very subtle nutty flavor that I think pairs soo well with the other ingredients here.
It also adds a touch of saltiness without having to add too much extra salt. I’m using shredded cheese instead of grated to make these cheesy chicken fritters extra cheesy! - Green Onion & Parsley – Both add a pop of color to the fritters, plus a herby and oniony flavor.
- Garlic – Another one of my favorites for savory dishes. Garlic complements the green onion, parm, and chicken perfectly!
- Oil for Frying – You can use your preferred oil — I like canola, peanut, and avocado oil myself.
Tips and Tricks to Make Perfect Cheesy Chicken Fritters
- Low carb… or not!
It’s all in the title: you can make these chicken fritters the more traditional way with breadcrumbs, or you can keep them keto friendly and use almond flour or pork panko instead.
The other ingredients just happen to be low carb, so no need to worry about any other substitutions.
As a note, I think these taste great either way!!
- Heat the oil first.
You may be tempted to add the oil to your wok and then place the chicken patties in right away. Resist the urge and let that oil heat up before you introduce the fritters to the pan.
They’ll cook up more evenly, and get that crispy, golden-brown exterior I know you all love. It pays to be patient when pan-frying!
- Don’t crowd the pan.
You want to give the patties enough space to be able to crisp up nicely. An overly crowded pan will cause your food to steam, and that’s definitely not what we’re going for!
If you notice a lot of steam when you add more fritters to the pan, it’s probably too crowded. It’s always better to cook in batches, so don’t hesitate to do so.
- Great for meal prep.

Prep Ahead
- Chop the chicken
- Slice the green onion
- Mince the garlic
- Chop the parsley
Kitchen Tools You Will Need
- Quality Knives and a big solid Cutting Board make prepping a breeze and are well worth the investment.
- Mixing Bowls – I like to have a variety of sizes on hand, and this set has them all.
- A Large Skillet or Wok – To help the cheesy chicken fritters cook evenly, a wide skillet or a wok works best. Ideally, they should be more than 12 inches in diameter.
Serving Suggestions
Plate these up hot and fresh from the pan! I usually enjoy them with a variety of different dipping sauces… Munchkin loves picking her favorites too.
Ketchup and mayo are both classics, or you could get creative and pair them with my special, signature barbecue sauce or this version with ranch.
Copycat Chick Fil A sauce or homemade honey mustard are some other options! If it tastes good with chicken, I say go for it!
I also love topping a big garden salad with a few fritters for extra protein. Or, I’ll make a wrap with some lettuce, tomato, and whatever other veggies I have in the fridge.
These are super versatile, so don’t be afraid to add your own personal touch and flavor when serving!
Storing & Freezing Keto Chicken Fritters
Leftovers will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
I’ll sometimes enjoy them chilled if I add them to a salad or wrap, otherwise, I usually reheat in the microwave. A few minutes in 30 second bursts and you’ll be good to go.
This chicken fritters recipe also freezes really well!
I freeze them raw — you can add them to a baking sheet and flash freeze first so they don’t stick to each other, or use patty dividers to keep them separated. They will keep for up to 3 months in the freezer.
No need to thaw when you’re ready to use, simply fry over low heat instead of medium for even cooking.
Chicken Fritters Recipe FAQ
A fritter is a portion or patty of food — it could be meat, poultry, seafood, or even veggies — that has been breaded and then fried.
These cheesy chicken fritters are exactly that, except I don’t bread mine. Rather, I add the breading (or the almond flour or pork panko if making keto chicken fritters) directly into the patties before I fry them.
Nope! As mentioned, you can use another cut of chicken if you want. Ground chicken or even shredded leftover chicken would work well as a substitute.
If you do go with ground chicken, make sure to brown it completely in a pan before adding it to the other ingredients. You don’t want to worry about it being undercooked!
There could be a couple of reasons! First, make sure you cut the chicken into ¼-inch pieces — anything larger than that, and your fritters will have a hard time staying together.
Second, you may need to add more binder. An extra egg yolk or a tablespoon or so of mayo should do the trick.

Chicken Fritters (Low Carb or Not)
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds chicken breast
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup fine ground almond flour, or pork panko or bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, packed
- 2 green onions
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Chop chicken into tiny pieces about ¼” or so. Set it aside. Then slice green onion, mince garlic and chop parsley. Combine them all in a large bowl.
- Add parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper and combine.
- Beat the eggs and add them to the bowl. Stir to combine.
- Next, add almond flour (or pork panko or bread crumbs) and mix.
- Heat a large skillet or wok over the stove and add olive oil. Then, use your hands to shape the patties; they should be about 2’’ wide. Cook them in the skillet on both sides until golden brown. Make sure they’re cooked through.
- Serve warm with your favorite sauce and salad on the side.
