Frozen Dog Treats
While there are so many different options to choose from, it can be hard to know exactly which snacks are nutritious and safe for your furry friend.
That’s why creating frozen dog treats from scratch is such a great idea! You know exactly what is in each one, and they don’t require much effort to make either.
If you love this homemade dog treats recipe, check out my other fruit flavor options!
There’s a recipe for frozen spinach-rosemary dog treats, which is super healthy! Other flavor options are blueberry and watermelon.
You could even blend up a batch of each and have a variety on hand for multiple pups!
There’s also a recipe for peanut butter biscuits that you can keep in the pantry or take on the go.
You bake them the same way as roll out sugar cookies, and it takes less than an hour from start to finish.
How to Make Strawberry Dog Treats
- Remove the stems from all of the berries, then slice them in half for easier blending.
- Toss those in the blender with Greek yogurt and honey, then puree until the mixture is as smooth as possible.
- Fill each mold all the way to the top using a syringe or spouted cup. Place your homemade dog treats in the freezer and leave them for about 3 hours or until frozen solid.
Helpful Tips and Tricks
- Make adjustments as needed. I included a range to accommodate differently sized berries.
If yours are smaller, go for the larger amount. If they are giant, use less. You should end up with about a cup total after they have been sliced. - Want to hull strawberries faster? Insert a straw into the bottom and push out through the top. This is a great way to remove the stem without slicing off any of the fruit.
- Prevent spills. Set the molds on a baking sheet before filling so you can easily transfer them in and out of the freezer.
- Tip for storing: Keep these homemade treats for dogs in the freezer so they don’t melt.
Once they are firm, pop them out of each mold and place them in a large ziploc bag or storage container. Use within 2 months for best results. - Safe for people too! Real, simple ingredients means you can enjoy a snack break together.
Special Supplies You Will Need
- Food processor for blending everything together
- Silicone Molds – The paw and bone shapes make these homemade treats for dogs a little extra fun!
- Baking Syringe – Since the molds are so small, this is a mess-free solution for the job. If you don’t have any on hand, a Pourable Cup will work too.
Homemade Dog Treats Recipe FAQ
Sure! Just be sure to swap the strawberries for another dog-safe fruit or vegetable option. Melon, bananas, peaches, and other berries are all great options.
Stick with one per day, maybe two for larger breeds, since these are meant to be a special snack. Just make and sore them in an airtight container so you can spoil them daily throughout the warmer months.
These are great healthy snacks and a refreshing treat to keep in the fridge for a delicious treat! They’ll love these yogurt treats!
Avoid the sugary artificial or synthetic kind which isn’t healthy for canines. Real honey, especially local varieties, are the best choice for your furry friend or you can skip it all together for a naturally sweet treat.
Enjoy!
