Making Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

This recipe was made in the Cosori 5.8qt, 1700 Watt model, so you may need to adjust the times if yours is a smaller size, a different wattage, or if you are using a different amount than suggested.

Try a small batch first using the times listed and test one in a water bath. If it isn’t done in the center, you can put the others back in for a bit longer.

19-20 minutes seemed to be the best window for smaller batches of up to four.

Increase the time to 20-22 minutes when making 5 to 8 at once, or shave off a couple of minutes if you prefer them soft boiled instead.

Helpful Tips and Tricks

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. You’ll get better results when air is circulating all around the food.
  • Use a clean appliance. When cooking eggs in an air fryer, it’s important to remove any residue left on the coils from previous recipes.
  • Smaller batches turn out better. The more that are in there, the more unevenly they seem to cook.
  • Tip for easy peeling: Tap the rounder end against a hard surface until it cracks to separate the inner membrane from the shell.

Any that are undercooked or overcooked will be harder to peel, so be sure to get the timing right.

Special note about cooking eggs in an air fryer

Because models can come in different sizes, wattage, and temperature control, it’s best to test in small batches to see what will work with what you have at home.

Some won’t go below 300°F, while others don’t need to preheat. If your model can’t be adjusted to a lower temperature, then you may not be able to make air fryer boiled eggs.

After multiple rounds of testing, I don’t recommend cooking them at 300°F because the outside cooks too fast, causing discoloration and deformities on the whites.

I mainly tested with the Cosori 5.8qt, but I did try a single egg in my Elite 3.5qt for 19 minutes at 250°F.

While the yolk was fully cooked, there was still some discoloration and deformity on the outside of the white.

FAQ – Common Recipe Questions

Do I really need to use an ice bath?

Yes! This stops the cooking process and prevents them from being overdone.

How long do air fryer hard boiled eggs last?

According to the USDA, these can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days regardless of whether or not they are peeled. For food safety purposes, don’t leave them out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
