Helpful Tips & Tricks
- On The Go – If you’ll be traveling with this dessert, make everything ahead and assemble it when you get there. Or, cover in plastic and place it in a cooler nestled in ice. This will keep it chilled and hold it steady so it doesn’t topple over.
- Individual Servings – You can use mason jars, wine glasses, or mini trifle dishes to create single portions. Serve them at each place setting for dinner guests or as an easy grab-and-go option at a party.
- Substitutions – Mint Oreos can sometimes be hard to find. In that case, just use regular ones instead. And instead of pudding, try a layer of hot fudge topping!
- Time Saving Shortcut – If you’re short on time, you could easily use chocolate pudding cups and Cool Whip instead.
Be sure to mix the mint extract and food coloring into the whipped topping before making your layers.
Honestly, I am not usually even a mint lover, but this trifle is AMAZING!
Creamy pudding and whipped cream are the perfect contrast for the crunchy Oreo cookies and melt in your mouth Andes mints. You are going to love it too!
Recipe Notes + FAQ
How To Store
For best results, keep the dessert trifle in the refrigerator and use it within a day. This way, the cookies don’t get soggy.
You could also prep the different components up to a few days in advance and assemble just before serving.
Place the mints and chocolate mint cookies in separate storage bags or containers, and keep the mints in the fridge so they don’t melt.
The pudding and whipped cream should last up to 3 days in the refrigerator in covered containers. However, you may need to mix the whipped cream again for a few minutes to fluff it back up.
Can I use a 9×13 pan instead?
Sure! You’ll need more cookies and mints to get a good layer, but this is a great option for when you need more servings or to take to a potluck.
What if I don’t like mint extract?
You can easily reduce the amount of extract if you’re sensitive to the flavor.
Or, make a simple syrup with fresh mint leaves as follows:
- Loosely chop the mint and add to a saucepan with equal parts sugar and water.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer until all of the sugar is dissolved. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
- Once it thickens slightly, remove from heat and pour through a strainer.
- Then, refrigerate until cold before adding to the whipped cream to taste.
Enjoy!

I love those little trifle dishes! Where did you find them? (Oh, and those look incredibly yummy!)
Thanks Christine. I am pretty sure we picked them up at Walmart a few years ago. Hope that helps. Thanks for coming by.
This looks & sounds delicious! 3 of my favorite ingredients in one – I am in love 🙂
Oh yum, your trifle looks divine!
The recipe calls for two cups of milk but it says to add three cups of milk to the pudding mix. Typo?
Whoops! Thanks Momma Ninja. I fixed it. Enjoy!
The recipe is great but if u don't like a lot of extract you should drop to .5tsp 🙂

I tried the chocolate mint trifle and instead of using trifle dishes I used a 9×13 and added a little more of oreos, mints, and it was the rave of the day at work, and serves more people. Thanks for a very wonderful desert!!

Mint and Chocolate is so tasty together! Love this easy dessert! Pinned 🙂
Can I replace the "1 (3.9 oz) package JELL-O Chocolate Fudge Pudding" with something else, like another chocolate fudge mix?
Sure, you could even use hot fudge for that layer. Enjoy!

This recipe looks delicious! I am going to double it and repeat the layers in a large trifle dish to take to a Christmas party.
I have 3 questions about the recipe:
1- Is it okay to use 2% milk instead of whole milk in the chocolate pudding?
2- Can you add the mint extract and green food coloring to Cool Whip instead of making the whipped cream?
3- What is the best way to chop the Oreo cookies and Andes mints?
Thanks!
