Tips to Air Fry Frozen French Fries
- Preheat your air fryer. If the basket is already hot, frozen fries will start to cook immediately.
- Get crispy results! Spray both the air fryer basket and the fries with a light coating of oil before cooking.
You’ll also want to toss frozen french fries in air fryer halfway (or give the basket a good shake) to be sure they cook evenly on all sides. - Adjust the cooking time. Depending on the thickness and how crispy you like then, it may take longer to air fry frozen French fries than the time listed.
- Season twice. Whether you keep it simple with salt and pepper or want to try something different, toss with seasonings before placing frozen french fries in air fryer basket.
Then, sprinkle on a bit more once they’re done! Chipotle powder, seasoned salt, or onion and garlic powders are an easy way to change up your flavor game. - Or grab a bag of seasoned fries instead! This method for air fryer frozen French fries works with any variety you can find at the store.
Just don’t forget the oil before you air fry frozen fries and adjust the time as needed.
Best French Fry Toppings
While everyone is focused on the dipping sauces, don’t forget that you can add toppings when you air fry frozen fries!
Seasonings can be added before cooking, but fresh herbs should be added during the last few minutes so they don’t burn.
Anything you’re using for loaded fries should be prepared separately and added after you remove the frozen French fries from the air fryer.
- Vinegar
- Fry sauce
- Salt and pepper
- Parsley
- Chili
- Cheese
- Bacon Bits
- Chives
Frozen French Fries in Air Fryer FAQ
This will all depend on how large your air fryer is and how many fries you put in.
If you follow this recipe, you will need to preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes. Then, you will need to cook the fries for 10 to 15 minutes.
Make sure you check them for doneness so they don’t overcook.
No need to thaw — that’s one of the reasons I love to air fry frozen French fries!
Just like in the oven, you can cook them straight from the freezer. The difference is that they are ready in about half the time!
They are healthier than the deep-fried version. How healthy they are depends on what you add to them after they are cooked.
If you watch the salt and choose a low-fat option like vinegar or onion powder, there is no reason you can’t enjoy air fryer frozen French fries as a healthy treat.
Regardless of air fryer size, it’s important that your fries are in a single layer. This way, the hot air can properly circulate around them as they cook.
If you add too many fries, they won’t cook properly. The outer layer will burn while the inner layer stays mushy.
Add what you can comfortably fit in your air fryer at one time. You can always make another batch if you need to.
Enjoy!
