Enjoy this individual-sized dessert without ever turning on your oven!
My funfetti mug cake recipe features a fluffy vanilla center that’s dotted with sprinkles for a colorful surprise.
No pans and mixing bowls to clean afterward either! All the ingredients are mixed and cooked in a single mug that you can eat out of too. Try these Golden Oreo Truffles that are super easy to make!
I also have a Funfetti Sugar Cookie Dough Dip that is just as easy to whip up! Not only is it eggless, but you can make it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for an easy treat.
Craving chocolate instead? Try a classic Oreo cake in a mug, our Nutter Butter recipe, or this decadent delight with chocolate chip cookies or chocolate swirl cheesecake.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Golden Oreos – AKA, sweet vanilla sandwich cookies with creamy filling. A much lighter version of the classic cookie!
Be sure to use regular, NOT double stuff. Otherwise, the ratio of crumbs to filling will be off and your funfetti mug cake won’t rise properly. - Milk – Adds moisture and helps bring the batter together. I usually use whole milk, but whatever is in your fridge will work.
So will water in a pinch — you’ll just lose a bit of flavor and the cake may be a little dry. - Sugar – For some extra sweetness and the perfect texture. Try brown sugar for a hint of caramel flavor and extra moisture!
- Baking Powder – Helps the vanilla Oreo cake batter rise and creates the perfect fluffy texture.
If you need a substitute, combine ¼ teaspoon baking soda with ½ teaspoon cream of tartar, then measure out ¼ of that mixture to use in place of the baking powder. - Rainbow Sprinkles – These are entirely optional, but they make my vanilla cake with Oreo cookies even more fun — and colorful!
I always have rainbow jimmies on hand, but you could swap in any kind of sprinkles you’d like… even holiday-themed ones.

Tips and Tricks to Make Perfect Vanilla Oreo Cake in the Microwave
- Cook just until fluffy and set.
Overcooking your Golden Oreo cake in a mug will cause it to come out rubbery and dry.
You can always start with 1 minute in the microwave, then check it to see if it needs the extra 10-15 seconds. If it still isn’t done, cook in 10-second intervals until it is.
- Don’t have a food processor?
Place the cookies in a Ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin or your fingers instead.
Really put some muscle into it — the crumbs need to be small enough to mix with the liquid to form the batter. Use the images as a guide!
- Prevent the sprinkles from bleeding color into the cake.
Sometimes sprinkles will start to dissolve when they touch liquid.
Combine them with a little bit of flour in a small bowl before mixing them into the batter to keep this from happening.
- Use a fork to mix everything together.
This guarantees that all of the ingredients are evenly combined and prevents any large clumps from forming.
Start with the cookie crumbs, sugar, and baking powder, then stir in the milk.
Once everything is well mixed, add the sprinkles and get your Golden Oreo cake in the microwave!

Prep Ahead
- Crush the cookies
Kitchen Tools You Will Need
- Food Processor or Rolling Pin for crushing the cookies.
- Heat-safe Cup – Check the bottom for a stamp indicating whether it is safe for the microwave or dishwasher. Otherwise, use a ramekin or one of these Oven-Safe Bowls.

Serving Suggestions
Dust your Golden Oreo cake with powdered sugar or add a dollop of whipped cream. And if you skipped the sprinkles, add a couple of fresh berries instead.
You could even spread a little vanilla frosting over the top, either homemade or your favorite store-bought variety.
I think peanut butter frosting or a drizzle of caramel would be yummy. And if you’re in a pumpkin spice mood, I’ve got a frosting for that too!
Funfetti Mug Cake FAQ
No, vanilla Oreo cake does not keep well. It’s best when eaten right away.
That said, you can do some prep work to make it come together even faster!
Pulverize an entire package of cookies at once instead of pulling out your food processor every single time. Store the crumbs in a sealed jar in the pantry and measure out about ⅓ cup per serving.
Although any standard size should work, aim for one that is 10-12 ounces. Not only will it be easier to mix the batter, but there will be plenty of room for toppings as well.
To avoid dairy, simply replace the milk with a plant-based alternative. Soy or oat milk will work best because of its neutral flavor, but feel free to experiment with your favorite.
Gluten-free vanilla sandwich cookies are a bit harder to find but work as an equal substitute.
Also, check your sprinkles to ensure they are safe, especially if you are serving this to someone with severe allergies.

Enjoy!
